Just talked to Tuk on the phone, this morning she brought Max to the hospital. He is having high fever, flu and cough. Mishal is with her at KK, stress for her. Mishal is also having flu but she's OK. Stupid back pain, if not I could help her to take care of Mishal. Can't even carry her and Vanessa started back school. Matthew can't take off and Amma is in Thailand. Ish!! Pity doesn't help right...

Hi everyone,,,
Max is back in KK hospital, since yesterday, but he's doing fine, no need to worry. Last thing he needs is visitors, you better don't, for max and all the other kids safety reason and even your own safety. Max's flu is just a normal one, tested for H1N1, but all negative. Glad for that, he ask me to come there, he knows that I will always visit him when he was at KK, but this time I better not. Anyway if everything goes well he might return home by tomorrow or the day after. Get well soon dear ...

We had dinner last night near by the Singapore Flyer, seafood, steam fish and black pepper crab very nice thanks. Only me and Tuk's family ha ha. After dinner went to the Flyer, Mishal and Max and me had fun, while Matthew, Tuk and Tui were scared LOL.Tui is going back to Thailand today, I think she's home sick. Vanessa and me went to visit Max yesterday, we really missed him a lot. He was asleep when we reached KK hospital and didn't look like he's going to wake up soon. He was forced to sleep by strong medicine and it was a battle, he even bit his fathers finger. Matthew felt like screaming, I can imagine that must have hurt. His finger was swollen up, poor Matthew, poor Max. Just now I called Matthew and asked if they both are OK, he said his finger better. He went home last night and Tuk came back to KK. Now he will be going back to KK. Matthew and Tuk are changing shift, once he come to KK, Tuk will go back home with Mishal and do the cooking and cleaning. Man that sounds so stress full, Tuk is really strong. Anyway all the drama from yesterday happened because they poked Max several times to find a vein. Guess Max wasn't so happy about it, some more his mom wasn't there with him. Tuk was really pissed, she wanted Matthew to go home and stay with Mishal but Matthew insisted of staying at KK with Max ha ha. What a drama,all that Tuk had to say after hearing that Max bit Matthew was, serves him right...LOL

Max and family are back from their holiday in Thailand. On the way back from Thailand to Singapore, Max suddenly got fever and this morning Tuk had to bring him to Hospital. They kept him there and gave him antibiotics, He is on ward 76 bed 12 on the 7Th level. I visited him there today with Sazus. Kung, John and Diann came too. Mishal is so cute and Max was so matured,like a good big brother, he is such a sweetheart.

In the aeroplane from Singapore to Thailand ...

This morning at 11am Max and his parents got a special ride from their house door below to the airport, with a London classic cab WOW!! Even Tuk was excited, she couldn't sleep last night. Max was so excited, heard him talking all the way. Tuk called me from the airport, wanted to send her off but the timing was not in favour to my time.They fly with Singapore airline to Thailand and got a 4 day stay in a 5star Hotel. This will be Matthews 1rst time since Mishal was brought to Thailand, to see his little princess and their first ever complete family holiday.Wish them all the best and return safe and happy. Max kept asking "Max can go","have moon","can touch"he mean in the aeroplane. He got so many questions and wished me good bye... Max and his family in Thailand,

Vanessa, Lyn and me visited Max and Tuk at KK. Max was so hyper all the time, so cute. Now they had started a new Chemo on him, oral one and I had a gimps of it when they gave it to him yesterday, the reaction of his face said everything. Poor thing, don't know how he is going to take it next time. Damn expensive this medicine and it can have many side effects ...

Today Max had a small operation to remove the Hickman line on his chest. Due to bacterial infection. He is still receiving Antibiotic's and there is no news about his release from the hospital. It's going to be his 3rd birthday soon and he will be in hospital again. That's so sad because he is still in isolation so no birthday party for him. Maybe just a cake for him to blow the candles.

Was babysitting Max today, Tuk had to go for a check up. She was not feeling well, back and leg pain. Her blood pressure also too high, not enough rest is what the doctor said. Well Tuk must take better care of your self and don't stress too much. Also must be careful what you eat, tulang every time is not so great... bluek ha ha. Matthew help her out a bit, don't let her do all the job LOL . Anyway Max was super cute as usual and we had lot's of fun ...

How common is LCH ...
About 50 children in the UK develop Langerhans' cell histiocytosis (LCH) each year. It can affect children of any age, and is more common in boys than girls.
LCH is not strictly a cancer but, rather, a cancer-like condition that may be treated with chemotherapy. In its more serious forms LCH can behave like a cancer and is therefore usually treated by children's cancer specialists (paediatric oncologists).
Langerhans' refers to Dr Paul Langerhans who first described the cells in the skin from which LCH develops.
Histiocytes are cells which are part of the immune system and are found in many parts of the body. There are two types of histiocyte: macrophage monocyte cells which destroy harmful proteins, viruses and bacteria in the body; and dendritic cells which stimulate the immune system. Langerhans' cells are dendritic cells and are normally only found in the skin and major airways. In LCH, the Langerhans' cells are abnormal and spread via the bloodstream into many parts of the body, including the bone marrow, skin, lungs, liver, lymph glands, spleen and pituitary gland. When Langerhans' cells are present in these tissues, they may cause damage.
LCH is divided into two groups:
single-system LCH, when the disease affects only one part of the body, for example, the skin or the bone
multi-system LCH, when it affects more than one part of the body.

Causes of LCH ...

The cause of LCH is unknown. It cannot be caught from other people and it is not passed on in families.

How LCH diagnosed ...
A variety of tests and investigations may be needed to diagnose LCH. X-rays will often be taken of the bones, the skull, and the lungs. Blood tests will also be taken. These tests help the doctors to decide if the disease is a single-system or multi-system type. Tests are likely to include the removal of a sample of cells (biopsy), and this is usually done in an operation, under a general anaesthetic. The cells are examined under a microscope. An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan of the brain may also be carried out.
Any tests and investigations that your child needs will be explained to you. The general information on children cancers gives details of what the tests and scans involve.

Treatment ...
Single-system LCH may disappear on its own without any treatment. This may occur following a biopsy. In some children, treatment such as surgery and corticosteroids (for example prednisolone) may be used.
Multi-system disease is usually treated with chemotherapy and corticosteroids. The length of treatment varies from child to child.
Chemotherapy is the use of anti-cancer (cytotoxic) drugs to destroy cancer cells, and corticosteroids are hormonal substances that are naturally produced in the body. Both chemotherapy and corticosteroids can help to destroy the LCH cells.

Side effects of treatment ...
Chemotherapy and corticosteroids used to treat LCH may cause side effects, and your child's doctor will discuss these with you before treatment starts. Any possible side effects will depend upon the particular treatment being used and the part of the body that is being treated.
Side effects of the chemotherapy can include: feeling sick (nausea) and vomiting; hair loss; an increased risk of bruising and bleeding; tiredness; corticosteroids may cause a rounding of the face (sometimes called a moon face); mood changes; and an increased appetite, which can lead to weight gain. All of these side effects are reversible when treatment stops.

Late side effects ...
Some children may develop after effects of the disease. These effects can happen within months or years of the diagnosis and are more likely to be due to the disease itself than to the treatment given. However, a few children may develop late effects from the drugs or the treatment they receive.
Possible late effects include reduction in bone growth, delayed puberty, hearing problems, and lung problems.

Clinical trials ...
Many children have their treatment as part of a clinical research trial. Trials aim to improve our understanding of the best way to treat an illness (usually by comparing the standard treatment with a new or modified version of the standard treatment). Research has found that people receiving treatment within clinical trials tend to do as well as, or better than, similar patients treated outside clinical trials. This does not mean that trial treatments are always better; hospitals that carry out trials do however have access to good equipment and follow precise guidelines when giving treatment.
The treatment trials for LCH are set up and organised by The Histocyte Society, a group of international specialists in histiocytosis. Your child's medical team will talk to you about taking part in a clinical trial (if appropriate) and will answer any questions you may have. Written information is often provided to help explain things. Taking part in a research trial is completely voluntary, and you'll be given time to decide if it is right for your child

Follow-up ...
Between eight and nine of every 10 children who develop LCH will recover from it. Sometimes the disease can come back, and so children will have regular check-ups in the outpatients clinic.
Follow-up is also important to look out for late side effects.
If you have specific concerns about your child’s condition and treatment, it is best to discuss them with your child’s specialist medical team who know the situation in detail.

Bone Marrow Biopsy...

Max had bone marrow biopsy yesterday and they took some skin samples too. They are going to check if the LCH was coming back. Today the doctors found out that Max's liver is getting bigger, it can be due to the medication that he is receiving now. But it can also mean that the LCH is still there. Everyone is tensed, worry for the worst, what if the LCH is back, that would mean all the struggles for Max will have to start over again. Only a few days left to his 3rd birthday and Tuk was planning a trip to Thailand, to bring back their little girl to Singapore and reunite the family.

Max shifted to the isolation room, that means no visitor aloud to enter his room only mom and dad. Even if he looks great and is full of energy from the outside, the inside of him is still very sensitive and he is easy to catch bacterias. So please, anyone who has a flu, cough or any other kind of illness that can spread to another person, do not visit Max. Yesterday he had skin and bone marrow biopsy. He said his back is pain, ohhh... poor thing... but anyway he is a fighter!!

Hey good news, it might be just one bacteria that made Max so weak. As soon he receives antibiotics everything looks great again. The tests aren't over yet, Monday he will have to undergo a bone marrow biopsy and they will take skin sample. Have to wait for that result, just to be sure, the ex ray showed nothing unusual. Bought him a yellow cab, he always wanted it. He was very active, had good mood and was laughing all the way. He didn't look ill to me. Soon he will be no more botak, his hair is growing really nice and even, so Tuk keep your finger off his head LOL ...

Last night we went to KK after Tuk had called us and told us the bad news that happened to Max, Max was taken into KK hospital because he had high fever and rashes. Tuk was crying, she could understand what was going on with Max. His temperature went up to 41 and overheated his brain which cost Max totally memory loss. He didn't recognize his mom or dad and wasn't able to talk or even to look at us, let me tell you that was very scary. I was very afraid of losing him and now imagine the parents, oh dear, that is hard to swallow. At about 10.30pm he started to regain his memory, he recognized his mom, dad and even me and gave Vanessa a Hi5. Matthew's sister came to the hospital too, other friends called to ask about Max. Mika's mother even topped up Tuk's hp, so that she could call her and ask about Max's condition. We were glad when Max started talking and went home relived, knowing that Max was a bit better now. Tuk and Max can have their sleep now. Lets wait till morning then we see further, they are going to take some skin and blood samples and we have to wait for the results ...

Returned LCH symptoms !!

Max had a check up at the KK Hospital today. Since one week he has rashes on his back and head, we all got worried what the reason was, of course we hoped it was just an allergic reaction, of something he ate or touched but we were wrong. Today the doctor said that the LCH is back again (as seen trough the rashes reappearing)and that she would urge Matthew and Tuk to let Max have a bone marrow transplant, that is exactly what Matthew and Tuk don't want Max to go trough. Many of the young kids at KK had lost their life trough the transplant, even I knew a few of them. Just recently a little Malay boy had gone trough the transplant and lost his life after he had it done. I'm not a doctor and I can't tell what even the doctors can't answer, would Max survive after the transplant. There is a really high possibility that he won't, Matthew and Tuk know that. The problem is that once they do the transplant, you will not be able to receive chemo therapy and if it did not work, doctors will be unable to do anything further, there is no turning back. The other problem is the bone marrow itself, Max has so much mixed genes, it wouldn't be easy to find the same match even Mishal (Max's sister is not really a good match)...

Bone marrow transplantation is an increasingly effective treatment for leukemia and several other malignant and nonmalignant diseases. However, there is growing concern about possible late consequences of compromised immune function and of treatment, particularly new cancers resulting from the total-body irradiation and high-dose chemotherapy used as conditioning regimens for transplantation. Few studies have assessed the risk of cancer among long-term,survivors of bone marrow transplantation.

Max had his Bone Marrow Biopsy done yesterday and he kept complaining how he got poked. He sayed he felt cold and I was amazed by the way he told his little story. Max pulled up his shirt to show me his big plaster on his back. Poor thing but lucky he's OK, this morning I talked to Tuk and she told me that Max complained about the pain he now have n his back and he didn't wanted to wake up at first. He was sleeping til 12pm and that's very unusual for him. There will be surly more Bone Marrow Biopsy's to come, just to make sure that his disease is cured.

I really miss Max, maybe one more week than he will be free again, hopefully for good this time. Yesterday a small Malay boy passed away at the cancer ward and Tuk was very upset. The boy was just four years old, how sad for the parents. It's time for Tuk and Max to leave the hospital, it's too saddening to see all this. Max is still at KK hospital, he is doing OK but the white blood is very low. He is now receiving white blood transfusion. Next week they might make another bone marrow biopsy on Max, to find out if there is anything to see. I wish everything will be fine soon, Matthews birthday is coming and we want to BBQ.

Max has side effects like fever and diarrhea at this moment. It's common after every chemo, hope everything will be back to normal soon. Just waiting for him to be released from KK and our journey can start all over again. I guess he will be out before Christmas, maybe Tuk and Matthew can put up a tree for him and let him decorate it. I visited him on Monday, he was in good mood but got mad at me when I left, he wanted me to wait for his daddy's return. Babysitting shift, Liza shifted from 1pm to 5pm and Vanessa shifter from 5pm to 9pm. Liza wasn't able to take pictures in her shift, Max had bad mood most of her time. At 5pm she took MRT back home and was so hungry she was sharing her food that she bought before going to the ward with Max. When Vanessa came, Max was already tired and it didn't take long for him to sleep in Vanessa's arms. Once he woke up he had good mood. Lucky Vanessa as usual, some more got food and Taxi money from Matthew ...

we had fun and guess what, Saint Nicholas came for a visit,

Max was scared at first, didn't want Saint Nicolas near to him still a lot professional photographers took many pictures of Max and Saint Nicholas trough the glass window(or was it Santa Claus not sure but I think it was to early for a Santa Claus).

I f only I know for whom they took the pictures, than I could try to get them.

One of the photographers said they will send the pics to my e-mail,

hope not an empty promise like last time person the Strait Time who promised to check out Max's case.

I bought Play-Doh for him and we had fun with it, I also bought him a carpet road for his cars, he was happy but a bit sad at times because his mom was not around.

Max is going back to KK hospital today, to receive his hopefully last chemo. He's going to be mad when he realise that he have to stay there today. Yesterday we went to IKEA and I had asked him about KK hospital and the nurses and he wasn't happy to talk about it, poor thing. Hope he will be fine after the treatment. let's pray for him too,such a cutie,he is now having Chemo at KK hospital if I'm not mistaken.

About MaxHe went for check up to KK hospital,he got cough,they checked his blood and it was OK,the doctor wanted to admit Max in the hospital but mom Tuk refused,saying that he would only become more ill when staying at the hospital and he needs to be free to walk around with his 2 years of age,he didn't have any fever and he was eating good and still very playful,the doctor wasn't happy but Tuk didn't care,she wants her son to receive another chemo after when he's free from cough and let him enjoy first, they again found some small spots and she wants to make sure that all those spots are gone,I haven't been able too see Max since the 3rd of October,got a cold myself and did not want to spread it around,I stayed at home all the time,now I'm OK,going to meet Max soon I hope, I really miss all 3 of them but mostly Max ...

Had lots of fun with Max and all the others,went to little India to eat ,visited Max home and watched him making Break Dance stunts for us,amazing how much energy he got,unstoppable ...

Max is doing fine at the moment,he is talking nonstop and remembers everything,I talk to him on the phone and he get's exited to see me,his hair is dropping from the chemo but that's normal and his bloodcount is also still low,all from the recent chemo,it will be ok after a few month,hopefully,gonna meet him this Hari Raya eve 'coz we gonne celebrate Kungs and Dittaya's Birthday at Soul Garden and Max will be there too,can't wait ...

Today I was Babysitting Max for few hours while his mom had something important to do,it was so fun with him after such a long time,I missed him so much,he was so happy to see me and welcomed me with a big smile all those hours while I was there,nonstop smiling and he was so cheeky and cheerful,didn't look unwell at all,temperature was normal,even one of the nurse mentioned to me "he must really like you a lot" ha ha of 'coz,my darling,wish I could have stayed longer but I went home about 5pm,had to prepare for breakfast,Tuk bought tulang for us,yucky the red gravy,don't know what's so special about it,but thanks to Tuk for treating us,sorry but I really don't like it that much but ate it 'coz I don't wanted to have Tuk wasted her money,so sweet of her right :)

Hello everyone,I would like to put some pictures of Maxbut too bad I haven't got any recent one and Tukcan't send me because she use prepaid,hmmm too badmaybe next time,as soon as I can go and visit Max,he'll surely becomes a photo modell for that day,going to take lot's and lot's of his picshe is still having a fever and he is still kind of weakhis voice is rusty and his mood swingsI heared he don't want to eat and slim down a lot

So sorry hearing today that Max wasn't well,he had very high fever and the blood was very low,and all that happened when mom is not around,Tuk went to Thailand for a few days to give her daughter Mishal a big hug and to spend some time with her,she waited until she was really sure that Max was all right,but destiny decided a different way,what to do,she tried to come back today but couln't get a place on a plane,she will be back by tomorrow,hope Max will be fine soon and that all this is just a passing side effect of the chemo ...

Hi friends, yesterday at about 6pm Max's chemo ended and he is doing great,I talked to him on the phone and he was very excited,recognized me instantly,I feel so happy,he was unstoppable from the moment they removed his line,Tuk said that he jumped around like a little monkey and she was tired but happy,he's getting stronger each time and I hope that this was his last chemo,so far he had no fever(side effects from chemo can show up in between of 2 weeks) but nah,his good,strong boy and loved by all of us ...

we had some Satay,Fish,fried rice,mee goreng and baby squids,
little bit disappointed with the food (squids and the sambal
from the fish) not so nice,saw an Malaysian actor there,
what's the name again,oya I forget LOL,he wore a cowboy hat and really reminded me of someone out there who drifted away for some time HA HA

at BOAT QUAY had some students dance shows and we just walked around

because I'm to lazy to post,nothing much happened but there is a good news about Max that really must be told,if he is really lucky then he just need one more chemotherapy,the doctors said that there is NO more LCH in his bones and I can tell you,they digged his bone marrow really deep just to be sure and even cut a bit from his bone for a biopsy,that was really painful for Max,but now he seams so fine,just like all the other kids at his age and he is learning really fast and have no problem to catch up on all he missed,his blood count is also not bad,anyway didn't meet him since last Saturday and really missing him now,but Tuk still scared to take public transport with him,always scared he might catch a virus and that would be bad because he still need the chemo,oh dear,now I posted more than I wanted,it just the same with shopping ha ha ...

It was a fun day one again,seeing how excited Max was all the time,how he conquer the slide,he was is his best mood,seamed to be like all the other kids,Matthew and Tuk were so glad to be able to see Max like that,he was so different from the way he is at KK,no wonder who wouldn't ...

See for yourself,Max was so daring,couldn't get enough of the fun,as if he know that he have to go back to KK soon and wanted to enjoy his days out ...Matthew in the shoo shoo train,fully loaded as you can see ...watching a bird show,how exciting,at the Sentosa Island but it was kinda hot ... back to the most favourite,the bubble blow,Max is expert in that ...
